"A Place for Us": Upcoming Capital Campaign to create a permanent home for BHR

All of BHR is poised to begin a full scale Capital Campaign to purchase the three building campus located at 3857 Martin Way in Olympia. The Community Mental Health Foundation (CMHF) and Behavioral Health Resources (BHR) have launched a joint effort to secure funds for the purchase of the three building campus. Two of the buildings are currently leased by BHR and serve as the permanent headquarters for the oldest and largest provider of mental health and addiction prevention/recovery services in South Puget Sound. By purchasing the first "home" owned by BHR in nearly 50 years, the growing agency will be able to ensure adequate services for our mentally ill and addicted clients while building organizational capacity to provide a full spectrum of regional care in the future.

The total cost for the purchase of the three buildings destined to become BHR's permanent home, is estimated to be over $4.7 million. BHR has negotiated a commercial bank loan for 75% of the purchase price. The balance of the funds required for the purchase, $l, l57, 250, will be raised by the Capital Campaign, sponsored by the Community Mental Health Foundation. Gifts toward this 25% of the necessary funding will be sought from individual donors, associations, corporations and foundations and government through gifts of cash, stock, property, and grants. We have reached 65% of our goal.

Role of Volunteers
More than 110 volunteers annually assist BHR to fulfill its mission. In the roles of board members, advisory committees, university interns, Sound Opportunities summer expedition aides, telephone hotline counselors and fundraisers for the annual special events, community residents contribute thousands of hours that build the organization's capacity to serve. Due to federal health care privacy regulations established by HIPAA, volunteers are restricted from participating directly in most program areas. In concert with HIPAA's federal standards regarding individual health care privacy, BHR will encourage the active participation of community volunteers. New board members will be recruited to extend the diversity of its representatives. As services expand, BHR will continue to offer graduate students from three area universities an opportunity to receive hands-on practical internships.
