Help Us Heal Our World Gala

Each year, BHR's Community Mental Health Foundation produces the Help Us Heal Our World Gala to raise funds for the unmet needs of our programs.

Every year we pick four corners of the world as our theme. This year we selected Morocco, England, Tahiti and Tuscany. Large-scale decorations included a medieval castle fully staffed with a knight in shining armor. Two full-scale camels and an intriguing Moroccan shiek's desert tent greeted guests as they entered Indian Summer. Guests enjoy the foods, beverages and sights unique to each of these famous places.

The April 8, 2006 Help Us Heal Our World gala was a wonderful success. It was due to the generosity of our sponsors and guests. Corner sponsors this year included Nicholson Insurance, Venture Bank, Rainier Dodge and Providence St. Peter Hospital. We raised over $50,000 for our kids programs.

Many of us know the joy of seeing family and friends once again become productive and revitalized members of our society. Further, we often share a deep gratitude to the people who helped our loved ones move toward a healthier life. Therefore, at the Phoenix Awards we also honor professional caregivers. This event is also our way of giving special thanks to our volunteers and donors who sustain the mission and values of BHR.

In June 2006 Behavioral Health Resources and the Community Mental Health Foundation will recognize and honor people in our community who have "risen from the ashes" of mental illness and/or addiction, and those who have helped them do so. The "Phoenix Awards" hosted breakfast will be held at the Indian Summer Country Club on June 8th.

I want to encourage each of you to consider applicants for a Phoenix Awards. Please note that they must be making a significant contribution back to our communities. You may chose one of our clients, or someone in the community. Last year's applicants were just wonderful and we hope to again provide a joyous education, plus break the issue of stigma regarding mental illness and addiction.

We have a committee outside of BHR who will make the selection of our six finalists. Should your applicant be chosen, we will request you to introduce that person at the Phoenix Awards.

We will be sending this information out to our referral sources in the next two weeks as well. We want to encourage the entire community to nominate candidates. We look forward to hearing from you!

On June 29, 2005 Governor Christine Gregoire graciously provided the Governor's Mansion for a reception to showcase Behavioral Health Resources' Capital Campaign to create a regional mental health campus. The Governor gave us an overview of mental health legislation in the 2005 session. Mansion staff members were delightful hostesses.

The Mansion event was an unprecedented success for Behavioral Health Resources. We are grateful to the Community Mental Health Foundation and staff for hosting of the event and appreciative of our Mansion Event sponsor Venture Bank.
